Obituary

Nancy was born in Pontiac, Michigan to Justus and Edith Wilson on November 16, 1943.  She was the youngest of eight children.  She attended Walled Lake Public Schools and graduated from Walled Lake Central High School.

Nancy married Doug Alexander in 1963 and worked as a secretary at Pontiac State Hospital until the birth of her first child.   She and Doug had two children, daughter Shelli and son Todd.  They lived in Oakland county until 1974 when they moved to Englewood, Florida.

During her years in Florida, Nancy worked as a secretary in a law office, managed the bookkeeping for Doug’s building business and took community college classes.  She returned to Michigan in 1985 after she and Doug divorced.  She lived and worked in Oakland county as an administrative assistant for an automotive parts manufacturer’s representative.  She later took a position as an administrative assistant at Arthur Andersen in Detroit and subsequently worked as an executive administrative assistant at Ernst & Young in Detroit until her retirement in June of 2012.  Nancy did volunteer work with hospice and the Oakland Literacy Council.  She was a Christian who strove to live out Jesus’ commandment to “love one another, as I have loved you.”

Nancy moved to Canterbury-on-the-Lake in Waterford in 2014 and lived there until she returned to Florida in 2019 to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law.   She lived at Bardmoor Oaks Nursing Home in Largo until her death at a hospice care center on October 20, 2021.

Peace Prayer of Saint Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.

O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen.
